About the position

The Senior Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information Governance Consultant is a pivotal role within the AI and Data Transformation Department at Southwest Airlines. This position is part of the Information Governance Team, which is tasked with establishing new capabilities in AI and Data Transformation. The consultant will be responsible for developing and executing strategies related to records, data, and information retention. This includes creating retention schedules, providing training opportunities, and implementing processes to effectively inventory, retain, or purge company records. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including Legal, Tech Architecture, Data Governance, Integrated Data Foundation, People, and Marketing, to foster a culture of care and concern for securing enterprise-wide information while maximizing its value. As a detail-oriented problem solver, the Senior AI and Information Governance Consultant will execute comprehensive strategies that align with the company's goals and help pilot the future of Southwest Airlines. The position emphasizes the importance of a flexible workplace, encouraging collaboration and innovation through face-to-face interactions at the vibrant Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX. Employees are required to work onsite at least three days a week, with specific days designated by the department. This role is essential in building capabilities and governance around strategic programs such as AI Governance, Records and Information Management, and Privacy, ensuring that the organization effectively manages its information assets while complying with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Build capabilities and governance around new and existing strategic programs, such as AI Governance, Records and Information Management, and Privacy.
  • Lead overall development of the program's strategic roadmap and key initiatives, including building an enterprise data inventory and policy framework.
  • Lead business processes to enable proactive identification of risks and compliance requirements early in business processes and technology implementation.
  • Provide leadership and organization for the program council to set the overall direction for major policy decisions.
  • Provide program management support to manage all aspects of the program, including forums, external resources, and subject matter experts.
  • Ensure cross-functional collaboration with program stakeholders and organize the program team to drive decisions and progress across individual projects.
  • Lead collaboration with Technology and Legal Departments to evaluate and implement software or tools for information, data, and record classification.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on areas of information governance, such as privacy, records and information, and artificial intelligence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred: Records and Information Management or IG certifications.
  • Preferred: Understanding of the Information Governance Reference Model (IGRM), eDiscovery Reference Model (EDRM), data governance principles, and AI frameworks (IAPP and NIST).
  • Expert-level experience in consulting, program management, and cross-functional enterprise strategic projects.
  • Advanced ability to exercise excellent judgment in handling, researching, and resolving complex program issues.
  • Ability to design, implement, and manage complex programs.
  • Ability to make decisions in an ambiguous environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex situations.
  • Advanced ability to develop and foster relationships to effectively influence stakeholders across the enterprise.
  • Expert skill in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in AI Governance and Privacy frameworks.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements in information governance.
