About the position

As a Senior Analyst in Actuarial at CVS Health, you will play a pivotal role in applying your extensive knowledge of quantitative and analytical methods to complete assigned projects and potentially lead project teams. Your primary focus will be on analyzing complex business and product processes to achieve effective business solutions. You will assist in establishing and implementing results-based programs and innovative initiatives within the actuarial informatics area, working under general supervision. In this role, you will analyze complex liabilities and risks within healthcare data to minimize potential costs. You will design intricate solutions for actuarial and underwriting processes, optimizing workflows to deliver an exceptional user experience. Effective communication will be key, as you will be responsible for conveying results and timelines for multiple projects to both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will conduct routine maintenance and enhancements of existing systems to support the actuarial team, ensuring that processes remain efficient and effective. A significant aspect of your role will involve coaching junior colleagues, sharing your knowledge of techniques, processes, and responsibilities to foster their professional development. This position requires a blend of analytical prowess, communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment where client satisfaction is paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with establishing and implementing results-based programs and innovative initiatives for the actuarial informatics area, under general supervision.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of the actuarial informatics field to offer feedback for decisions and innovation strategies that enhance organizational growth and visibility.
  • Analyzes complex liabilities and risks within healthcare data to minimize potential costs.
  • Designs complex solutions for actuarial and underwriting processes to deliver optimized workflow and enhance user experience.
  • Communicates results and timelines for multiple projects to constituents internally and externally.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and enhancements of existing systems to support the actuarial team.
  • Coaches more junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or closely related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant industry experience in one or more of the following areas: Medicare Advantage, ACO, MSSP, ACO REACH, Healthcare Economics, Pricing, Reserving, Forecasting, Data Analytics.
  • Excellent quantitative analysis abilities, grounded in epidemiology, biostatistics, econometrics, health informatics, healthcare analytics or related field.
  • Strong SQL, SAS, Python, or R skills, with the ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct nuanced analyses to produce accurate and unbiased results and tell the story of those results in data visualizations and reports.
  • Deep knowledge of standard methods for measuring health care utilization, spending, quality, and outcomes; risk adjustment; provider profiling; and related analytical tasks.
  • Ability to examine, interpret and report results of analytical initiatives to stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment where client satisfaction is key.

Nice-to-haves

  • Attainment, or close to the attainment, of Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA).
  • Experience with VRDC (CMS 100% Research Identifiable Files RIF) and/or LDS (5% Sample Data).
  • Prior experience in value-based care settings.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and Power Point software.
