The Senior Analyst in Actuarial will apply in-depth knowledge of quantitative and analytical methods to complete assigned projects and may function as a project team lead. This role involves analyzing complex business and product processes to achieve effective business solutions. In this position, you will assist in establishing and implementing results-based programs and innovative initiatives within the actuarial informatics area, working under general supervision. You will leverage your expertise in the actuarial informatics field to provide feedback that informs decisions and innovation strategies aimed at enhancing organizational growth and visibility. Your responsibilities will include analyzing complex liabilities and risks within healthcare data to minimize potential costs, as well as designing complex solutions for actuarial and underwriting processes to optimize workflow and improve user experience. You will be responsible for communicating results and timelines for multiple projects to both internal and external stakeholders, conducting routine maintenance and enhancements of existing systems to support the actuarial team, and coaching junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities. This role requires a strong foundation in quantitative analysis, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with establishing and implementing results-based programs and innovative initiatives for the actuarial informatics area, under general supervision.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of the actuarial informatics field to offer feedback for decisions and innovation strategies that enhance organizational growth and visibility.
  • Analyzes complex liabilities and risks within healthcare data to minimize potential costs.
  • Designs complex solutions for actuarial and underwriting processes to optimize workflow and deliver the right user experience.
  • Communicates results and timelines for multiple projects to constituents internally and externally.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and enhancements of existing systems to support the actuarial team.
  • Coaches more junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or closely related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant industry experience in areas such as Medicare Advantage, ACO, MSSP, ACO REACH, Healthcare Economics, Pricing, Reserving, Forecasting, and Data Analytics.
  • Excellent quantitative analysis abilities, grounded in epidemiology, biostatistics, econometrics, health informatics, healthcare analytics or related field.
  • Strong SQL, SAS, Python, or R skills, with the ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct nuanced analyses to produce accurate and unbiased results and tell the story of those results in data visualizations and reports.
  • Deep knowledge of standard methods for measuring health care utilization, spending, quality, and outcomes; risk adjustment; provider profiling; and related analytical tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment where client satisfaction is key.

Nice-to-haves

  • Attainment, or close to the attainment, of Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA).
  • Experience with VRDC (CMS 100% Research Identifiable Files RIF) and/or LDS (5% Sample Data).
  • Prior experience in value-based care settings.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and Power Point software.
