About the position

As a Senior Analytics Engineer at Tandem Diabetes Care, you will play a crucial role in transforming disparate data into actionable insights that empower users to make informed decisions. This position involves leading the design, development, and optimization of dimensional data models across various data platforms, ensuring data accessibility and quality for strategic decision-making and operational enhancements. You will collaborate with stakeholders to build effective data models and advocate for improvements in data processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of dimensional data models in Databricks and EDW, following SDLC guidelines.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for dimensional modeling, ensuring models are robust, scalable, and meet business needs.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Determine and implement appropriate technical solutions to address data access and modeling requirements.
  • Develop and optimize data models to transform raw datasets into accessible and insightful dimensional structures.
  • Test and validate architecture, logic, and performance of dimensional models in coordination with the Data Infrastructure team.
  • Perform user testing of dimensional models with end users to ensure ease of data access and intuitive user experience.
  • Coordinate data validation efforts with functional stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data outputs.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of data models and calculated fields, including business context and technical details.
  • Advocate for improvements in source applications and data processes to reduce downstream data transformation needs.
  • Support iterative development of existing dashboards and data products.
  • Create feedback loops to understand operational processes, define business metrics, measure KPIs, and recommend improvements.
  • Provide guidance to team members and colleagues on effective use of data models and adherence to best practices.

Requirements

  • Expertise in dimensional modeling (e.g., star, snowflake).
  • Advanced SQL skills including the ability to optimize queries for performance.
  • Experience with relational databases and cloud-based data warehousing solutions (Databricks preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Git/source control and familiarity with the command line.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data warehousing, and business intelligence including BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Ability to translate complex data needs into actionable solutions and clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and drive complex data projects.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and driving continuous enhancements in data systems and processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5 years' experience in data modeling, analytics engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing dimensional data models.
