About the position

The Senior Animal Technician (SAT) at the University of California San Francisco plays a crucial role in supporting the research programs by providing comprehensive care and management of laboratory animals. This position involves overseeing the daily care, health monitoring, and technical assistance related to various species of animals. The SAT may also lead a small team of animal care personnel and participate in special projects, ensuring the well-being of the animals and compliance with research protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and monitoring of laboratory animals.
  • Act as a section lead for a small group of animal care personnel.
  • Assist Animal Health Technicians and veterinary staff with technical tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records including per-diems, health surveillance, and breeding logs.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned, including animal enrichment and breeding management.
  • Perform basic technical duties and data entry for mouse breeding colonies and other species.
  • Rotate as a floater to various LARC locations for technical or backup assistance.

Requirements

  • Experience in animal care and husbandry practices.
  • Ability to perform technical tasks related to animal health and welfare.
  • Strong record-keeping skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and lead a small team.
