About the position

The Sr. Application Development and Support Engineer at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) will provide functional and technical support for Corporate Systems applications, focusing on Workday integrations, reporting, and custom development. This role involves participating in the software development life cycle, analyzing business requirements, and delivering projects while maintaining operational applications. The position is part of a digital transformation initiative impacting various corporate applications, and it requires collaboration with an engineering team to create innovative solutions for environmental challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional and technical support for Corporate Systems applications.
  • Develop and provide production support for Workday integrations, reporting, and Workday Extend.
  • Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle for Workday implementations.
  • Review and analyze business requirements for projects of varying complexity.
  • Perform tasks to deliver projects and maintain applications, providing support for production issues as needed.
  • Design and develop new technology systems and solutions according to system requirements.
  • Act as technical lead on application maintenance projects related to upgrades and modifications.
  • Work with internal teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions and develop project plans.
  • Assist technical support staff and users by diagnosing complex problems and providing solutions.
  • Document system designs, development processes, and integration specifications.
  • Lead the design and implementation of Workday Extend applications and custom development projects.
  • Develop scalable, reusable integration patterns for Workday to ensure consistency across applications.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Workday integration tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in programming and systems design, with three years of recent experience in supporting Workday Integrations, Workday Extend, APIs, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one object-oriented language (Java, Python, JavaScript, or C#).
  • Expert knowledge of API concepts (SOAP & REST), XML, XSLT 3.0, JSON, oAuth 2.0, and encryption/secure practices.
  • Proven experience with Workday integration tools such as Workday Studio, Report as a Service, WQL, WWS, Core Connectors, and EIB.
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining custom applications using Workday Extend.
  • Experience with application security, including API security models and cloud security best practices.
  • Experience analyzing complex system-wide technical specifications and debugging applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable Workday integrations for complex business systems.
  • Experience with Workday Prism Analytics, Workday Financials, and Workday Strategic Sourcing.
  • Experience with agile delivery methodologies, particularly Scrum and Kanban.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, release/configuration management, and version control practices.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing demands.
  • Certification in Workday Integration or Workday Extend.
