About the position

Graham Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mainframe Systems Analyst with extensive expertise in Assembler, FOCUS, and REXX. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mainframe environments and tools and be able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to analyze and document functionality and logic within legacy code. You will be happy to know that this is a remote position. We prefer candidates based in Dayton, OH, or the DC area. Occasional travel may be required for team meetings and training.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage at least 10 years of experience in mainframe programming, including proficiency with Assembler, REXX, FOCUS, COBOL, JCL, and related platforms, while demonstrating adaptability to modern technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, document functionality, and translate legacy code and business logic into actionable documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of mainframe best practices while working with tools such as Control-M or equivalent.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives by migrating legacy applications to modern platforms and employing integration techniques such as APIs, web services, and microservices.
  • Provide accurate effort and complexity estimates for user stories and tasks during sprint planning.
  • Support project-based environments by utilizing effective project management practices, including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and develop internal documentation and training materials.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with legacy programming languages such as Assembler, FOCUS, JCL, COBOL, and REXX.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced hybrid team environment across different time zones.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient in using Workflow, Agile Scrum, and Project Management tools such as Jira, MS Project, Visio, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Business Process/Rules repositories.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practical application of Waterfall, Agile Scrum, and Kanban software development methodologies.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to pass a government background check.
  • 10 years of experience in relevant roles.
  • Master's Degree (MA/MS) in a related field is required.
