About the position

Amazon is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to enhance its discovery strategy by leveraging deep learning, machine learning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP) techniques. This role focuses on developing scalable language model-centric solutions for personalized assistant systems, innovating methods for contextual knowledge extraction, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems in knowledge aggregation and processing. The position also involves mentoring junior team members and communicating insights to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Use deep learning, ML and NLP techniques to create scalable solutions for language model-centric systems.
• Innovate new methods for contextual knowledge extraction and information retrieval.
• Research advanced customer understanding and behavior modeling techniques.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems in personal knowledge aggregation and processing.
• Design and execute experiments to evaluate the performance of algorithms and models.
• Identify new opportunities to apply technologies for real-world problem-solving.
• Communicate results and insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor and guide junior scientists and engineers.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree with 6+ years of applied research experience.
• 3+ years of experience building machine learning models for business applications.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related languages.
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy.
• Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark.
