About the position

The Senior Architectural Specification Writer at Jacobs plays a crucial role in supporting the architectural design studio by developing and managing project specifications for large-scale projects. This position involves collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure design excellence and adherence to quality standards, while also providing technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced architects. The role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all conventional aspects of architectural specification development and editing with minimal supervision.
  • Plan and conduct work requiring judgment and evaluation, selection, and adaptation of architectural techniques and criteria.
  • Exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills, seeking guidance when necessary.
  • Possess knowledge of architectural design and construction principles, including building codes and standards.
  • Exhibit attention to detail and quality control, including checking others' work.
  • Manage workload, make and keep commitments, and take ownership of assigned work.
  • Work in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner with strong attention to detail.
  • Forecast level of effort needed to complete design scope and identify scope changes.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to designers and less experienced architects.
  • Collaborate on producing a departmental program for training and continuing education for architects.
  • Attend project meetings and actively help resolve concerns across all disciplines.
  • Participate in project quality reviews and support vendor dialog, research, and product selection.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of architecture experience required.
  • At least 5 years of architectural specification writing experience for large-scale projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing project quality and improving specifications.
  • Excellent client focus and working familiarity with the CSI system.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum CSI CDT accreditation.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Construction Specification Institute accreditation.
  • Professional Architecture license.
  • Project experience on international projects.
  • Proficiency with Revit.
  • Data Center or Advanced Facility building design experience.
  • LEED accredited.
