About the position

This position reports into the Underwriting Excellence team and is primarily responsible for conducting individual file reviews to assess risk quality, ensure adherence to best practices, and help identify trends which can assist with training for agents and underwriting staff. The individual will analyze, summarize, and effectively communicate findings and trends to the underwriting production field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of new business, renewals, and quotes to evaluate risk quality and file handling from underwriting, pricing, and policy construction perspectives, ensuring adherence to established underwriting procedures and authorities.
  • Mitigate potential future losses by escalating substandard risks requiring immediate action and identifying trends and opportunities for improvement among agents and underwriters.
  • Summarize results, analyze trends, and communicate findings to underwriting.
  • Provide monthly reviews and quarterly territory reports, offering insights into agency results, trends, book performance, and supporting business development opportunities within partner management.
  • Facilitate KPMG, SOX, and internal corporate compliance audits.
  • Offer recommendations to influence underwriting appetite, guidelines, and execution across all lines of business.
  • Update requirements for automated tools used to collect and track audit results, collaborating with IT and BTS to implement and test changes.
  • Identify training needs for underwriting staff and agents based on audit results, working with Underwriting Training Coordinators to develop appropriate training programs and objectives.
  • Represent the department in inter-departmental meetings as requested by the VP or Manager, maintaining professional relationships with internal departments, external vendors, and customers.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University
  • 7+ years related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work experience as a Senior Underwriter or equivalent skill level position required.
