About The Position

As a Sr. Field Auto Appraiser at USAA, you will be responsible for investigating, negotiating, evaluating, and appraising vehicle damage claims for both repairable and total loss vehicles. This role is crucial in ensuring estimate accuracy in compliance with state laws and regulations while delivering exceptional member service through proactive communication and empathy. You will utilize digital tools to assess complex auto physical damage claims and maintain high standards of productivity throughout the claims process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • 2 years of auto appraising experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, auto parts distribution process, and claim appraisal procedures.
  • Advanced working knowledge of estimating losses using CCC or similar estimating platforms.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with members, claimants, repair facilities, and other stakeholders.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and appraise highly complex auto physical damage claims according to contract terms, corporate guidelines, and state laws.
  • Investigate claim damages by communicating with insured members, internal claims adjusters, and third parties/vendors.
  • Review facts of loss and vehicle damage to identify subrogation opportunities and ensure all supporting documentation is included in the claim.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of P&C insurance products, services, contracts, and internal processes to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Review claims for fraud indicators and refer to the Special Investigations Unit when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process for complex claims.
  • Manage desk productivity through timely follow-ups and accurate mapping of repair plans and timelines.
  • Review additional damages from repair facilities to complete supplements or triage inspections.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for disputed claims or trials and assist team members with escalated issues.
  • Partner with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate resolution of high complexity claims.
  • Provide policyholders with information regarding coverage, repair estimates, and claims processes while setting appropriate expectations.
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations, including on-call dates and potential travel during designated CATs.
