About the position

The Raytheon Advanced Manufacturing, Modernization, and Technology (AMMT) team is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated team member to take on the role of Principal Automation Systems Engineer in support of Raytheon McKinney Consolidated Manufacturing Centers. This position will be responsible for executing automation projects within the McKinney factory. The Automation Systems Engineer will work for the McKinney Automation Systems Engineering Manager, and will collaborate with local factory leadership, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, operations, supply chain, and front end of the business Automation Lead to execute automation development and deployment and incorporate advanced Smart Factory/Industry 4.0 technologies as well as identify opportunities for process improvements via lean techniques. In this role, the Principal Automation Systems Engineer will leverage their expertise in automation systems design, development, deployment, validation, and sustainment in a factory setting, with a strong emphasis on electrical controls including automation systems such as torque controllers, robots, vision systems, and PLCs. The engineer will also be involved in process integration and electromechanical/mechatronic systems, ensuring that all automation solutions are effectively integrated into the manufacturing processes. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements, utilizing lean techniques to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Execute automation projects within the McKinney factory.
  • Collaborate with local factory leadership and various engineering teams to develop and deploy automation solutions.
  • Incorporate advanced Smart Factory/Industry 4.0 technologies into manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements using lean techniques.
  • Design, develop, validate, and sustain automation systems in a factory setting.
  • Work with electrical controls including automation systems such as torque controllers, robots, vision systems, and PLCs.
  • Integrate electromechanical and mechatronic systems into manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in engineering, manufacturing, operations, and/or automation.
  • University Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) or an Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.
  • Experience in automation systems design, development, deployment, validation, and/or sustainment in a factory setting.
  • Experience with process integration and electromechanical/mechatronic systems.
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electrical design, computer vision, artificial intelligence, or related fields.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineering terms and principles.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric Code, UL508A).
  • Strong understanding of automation programming environments including ladder logic, function block, and Python.
  • Knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
  • Proven leadership skills in managing dotted line relationships across multiple disciplines.
  • Demonstrated technical background with experience in software, firmware, and electronics development.
  • Experience working in Agile teams.
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory concepts and Digital Manufacturing Simulation.
