About the position

The Sr. Automation Engineer will perform a variety of engineering tasks focused on planning and developing products, tools, fixtures, equipment, and industrial processes. This role involves improving products or processes across multiple technical areas and locations, identifying opportunities for new products, and interacting with both internal and external customers. The engineer will work independently or in teams, lead projects, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers while ensuring customer needs are central to all projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work in planning and developing products, tools, fixtures, equipment, and industrial processes.
  • Focus on improving products or processes impacting multiple technical areas or locations.
  • Identify opportunities for new products or processes.
  • Interact with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Work independently or in teams under general direction.
  • Solve complex problems with occasional assistance from peers or technical leaders.
  • Direct and monitor the work of less experienced employees.
  • Lead major projects or several smaller projects.
  • Define scope, objectives, vision, and activities of assigned projects based on user needs.
  • Coordinate activities of team members working on projects.
  • Control expenses and meet budget goals for projects.
  • Own project results and encourage team ownership.
  • Demonstrate in-depth technical expertise in assigned area.
  • Assist junior engineers with knowledge capture and problem-solving tools.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in field of specialization or Bachelor's degree with related experience (5-8 years).
  • In-depth knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in multiple technical specialty areas.
  • Advanced mastery of systematic and creative problem-solving tools.
  • Understanding of lean product development tools and principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with agency certification activities for new products (UL, CE, CSA, VDE, etc.).
  • Experience in market research and cost analysis of designs.
