About the position

The Automation Infrastructure Services team at UMB Bank is dedicated to developing and implementing automation strategies that enhance operational efficiencies across the organization. As a Sr. Automation Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in this initiative by collaborating with various teams to design and implement automation solutions using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Shell Scripting, and Ansible. Your primary focus will be on identifying and automating repeatable tasks, improving monitoring and remediation processes, and ensuring that automation becomes a fundamental aspect of the UMB environment. In this senior-level position, you will not only lead automation efforts but also mentor and train junior automation engineers. You will work closely with site reliability engineers to create patterns, templates, and standards for pipeline automation, ensuring that infrastructure provisioning is efficient and compliant with IT general controls. Your responsibilities will also include advising application product teams on infrastructure capabilities and actively developing self-service catalogs for infrastructure provisioning. This role is hybrid, requiring on-site presence on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for candidates located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, while also being open to qualified remote candidates from other parts of the United States. Your contributions will be essential in driving the automation strategy forward and enhancing the overall efficiency of UMB's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute core infrastructure services and common design patterns for computing, storage, networking, operational, and security domains.
  • Develop and maintain automation frameworks for platform provisioning consumed by application product teams.
  • Advise application product teams on incorporating infrastructure capabilities.
  • Collaborate with site reliability engineers to develop patterns, templates, and standards for pipeline automation.
  • Identify emerging infrastructure services to meet business resiliency requirements.
  • Develop and support self-service catalogs for infrastructure provisioning, ensuring compliance with IT general controls.
  • Provide thought leadership and create solutions using PowerShell, Python, Ansible, and Shell Scripting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent IT work experience.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience in DevOps or Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), including troubleshooting and maintenance of scripts.
  • Strong experience with automation methodologies, strategies, best practices, and process improvement.
  • Experience with Metrics, Events Logging, and Tracing solutions using Splunk.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PowerShell, Python, Bash, and/or Shell Scripting.
