About the position

The Senior Avionics Engineer position at SkyBridge Aviation involves applying advanced engineering principles to support the development, integration, and verification of avionics subsystems for military aircraft. The role requires extensive experience in avionics engineering, particularly within the Department of Defense (DoD), and focuses on improving the performance and sustainability of existing and future weapon systems. The engineer will work in a hybrid environment, contributing to various technical reviews and analyses while ensuring compliance with airworthiness standards.

Responsibilities

  • Apply understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles to improve performance and sustainability of weapon systems.
  • Support Aircraft Information Management Systems (AIMS) requirements/testing/certification and spectrum management.
  • Define requirements and support testing and certification of aircraft and supporting systems using CNS/ATM knowledge.
  • Assist in avionics system design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessments.
  • Attend technical reviews and provide advice on hardware and software installation.
  • Review and assess program-specific databases.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in controls and displays, data bus, and data recording development for airborne vehicles.
  • Review technical documents for compliance with specifications and airworthiness.
  • Support technical interchange meetings regarding controls, displays, and data buses.
  • Assist in developing requirements for future upgrades to avionics equipment.
  • Review airworthiness reports in accordance with USAF requirements.
  • Translate user requirements into weapons system requirements for design and evaluation.
  • Assist in material solution analyses leading to design reviews.
  • Produce or review technical evaluations, engineering studies, and acquisition strategies.
  • Analyze equipment and software deficiencies and recommend corrections.
  • Support engineering evaluations of contractor recommendations for operational issues.
  • Assist in developing engineering cost estimates and schedules.
  • Perform advisory roles for program contractor source selections on engineering requirements.
  • Ensure OSS&E compliance for all products through disciplined engineering activities.
  • Participate in value stream mapping and AFSO21 program facilitation.

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in an ABET accredited engineering discipline.
  • Fifteen years of experience in avionics engineering, with five years in the DoD.
  • Knowledge of avionics engineering for subsystem definition, development, integration, and verification methods.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the required level.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC-429 data buses.
  • Familiarity with FAA and DoD airworthiness certification processes.
  • Experience in technical document review and compliance assessment.
