About the position

The Sr Avionics Hardware Engineer at Blue Origin is a key role within the In-Space Systems business unit, focusing on the development, manufacturing, and operation of satellite systems. This position involves designing and integrating mixed signal electrical circuitry, particularly for Optical Communications Terminals, to facilitate high-data rate deep space communication links. The engineer will contribute to the mission of safe human spaceflight by applying technical expertise and leadership skills in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mixed signal electrical circuitry for satellite systems.
  • Integrate Optical Communications Terminals for deep space communication.
  • Contribute to the development, manufacturing, and operation of satellite systems.
  • Apply technical expertise to ensure safe human spaceflight.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to solve complex problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in electronics hardware development, including circuit card design and consumer electronics.
  • Proficiency in designing analog, high-speed digital, or mixed-signal circuits.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and board layout principles.
  • Experience with SoC or Processor/FPGA boards with multiple power domains.
  • Expertise in high-speed serial bus design and optimization.
  • Strong background in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with components such as ADCs, DACs, OpAmps, and microcontrollers.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related fields.
  • 10+ years of experience in design, development, and testing of electronic systems.
  • Experience with software-defined radios or modems.
  • Understanding of communication protocols like Ethernet and IEEE 1588.
  • Experience leading multi-functional teams for space hardware qualification.
  • Familiarity with space hardware testing standards.
  • Eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance.
