About the position

At Maxar, we are at the forefront of space technology, developing next-generation spacecraft that range from Earth observation to interplanetary missions, including NASA's Artemis Program Lunar Gateway Power and Propulsion Element (PPE). We are seeking an experienced Sr. Avionics Hardware Engineer to join our dynamic Space Program Delivery team. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in fast-paced, iterative Avionics Hardware developments specifically for Command & Data Handling systems, with a strong focus on proliferated Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations applications. As a Sr. Avionics Hardware Engineer, you will serve as the engineering focal point for one or several avionics units across various Space Infrastructure products. This position requires close collaboration with a diverse team of electrical, mechanical, test, and system engineers. You will be responsible for developing electrical schematics, PCB board layouts, and specifications, as well as executing test activities in the laboratory. Your role will also involve providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers, ensuring the successful completion of the overall design of avionics boxes. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the avionics hardware from concept through to verification, production, and operation for space applications.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a cross-functional team of electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to develop avionics hardware products for space infrastructure applications.
  • Create electrical schematics, PCB layouts, mechanical drawings, and test specifications.
  • Execute laboratory test activities to validate avionics hardware designs.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers in the team.
  • Oversee the design process from concept to verification and production of avionics hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in avionics hardware design and development.
  • Proficiency in creating electrical schematics and PCB layouts using industry-standard software.
  • Experience with laboratory testing and validation of avionics hardware.
  • Strong understanding of Command & Data Handling systems and space applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Experience with LEO constellations and space infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to avionics hardware.
  • Knowledge of software tools for simulation and analysis of electronic systems.
