About the position

We are seeking a passionate Senior Backend Software Engineer with expertise in Python, Django, and Flask to join our team in Los Angeles. This role involves building and maintaining a robust backend for our SaaS products, ensuring high reliability and scalability while developing new features for a platform used by millions daily. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in backend development, cloud-native applications, and containerization technologies.

Responsibilities

• Building a platform at scale and releasing new multi-platform features with zero downtime.
• Contributing to the backend development of mobile, web, and desktop products using Python, Django, and Flask.
• Building new capabilities into our web platform that is used by a million people per day while maintaining reliability, scalability, and code quality.
• Participating in the development of unit tests and code reviews.
• Analyzing and troubleshooting complex system issues.
• Participating in our Agile Scrum process including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
• Collaborating cross-functionally with Product and Design teams integrated into our Agile 'pods'.

Requirements

• BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology/Systems, or related fields.
• 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Track record of developing scalable and high-traffic web, mobile, and desktop applications.
• History of working on complex projects and ability to work cross-team to solve problems.
• Advanced skills in building web application backends in Python and Django/Flask.
• Strong working knowledge of NoSQL data-stores, task queues, and common architectural components.
• Understanding of Unix/Linux operating system.
• Experience with developing cloud-native applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Desire to expand your skill sets and learn new technologies.
• Relentless dedication and discipline in building world-class enduring software.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Google Firestore NoSQL database or similar databases (i.e., MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Knowledge of public cloud platforms such as Google Cloud (preferred) and AWS.
• Familiarity with Docker for local virtualized development or other similar containerization technologies.
