About the position

CBRE is seeking a Senior Benefits & Payroll Accounting Manager to support accounting, planning, and analysis activities associated with payroll and benefit programs for over 40,000 employees in the United States. This role will serve as the finance partner for the People (HR) Benefits and Payroll organization and will support segment, regional, and local controllership teams. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of payroll and benefit plan operations, demonstrate a collaborative approach, and be solution-oriented. They will be responsible for investigating the root causes of variances and effectively communicating across both finance and non-finance teams. This position is hybrid, requiring the individual to be in the Richardson office two days a week to facilitate collaboration with the team and other internal corporate functions. The Senior Benefits & Payroll Accounting Manager will support the accounting and operations of US benefit programs and payroll transactions. They will be responsible for the compensation and benefit areas during the monthly close, which includes coordinating with Segment Accounting Teams, Business Finance, People Teams, and the Shared Services Organization. The role also entails ensuring compliance and continually improving robust accounting and reporting processes, contributing to key accounting projects and deliverables to meet deadlines, and acting as the primary or secondary contact with internal and external auditors on accounting matters. Additionally, the Senior Manager will be responsible for producing key internal financial reports and maintaining compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position requires a proactive approach and the ability to work cross-functionally, ensuring that all accounting operations align with the company's financial goals and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the accounting and operations of US benefit programs and Payroll transactions.
  • Be responsible for compensation/benefit areas for the monthly close, coordinating with Segment Accounting Teams, Business Finance, People Teams, and the Shared Services Organization.
  • Accountable for complying with and continually improving robust accounting and reporting processes.
  • Contribute to key accounting projects and deliverables to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Act as primary/secondary contact with internal and external auditors on accounting matters.
  • Responsible for key internal financial reports produced by the team.
  • Maintain compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance.
  • At least eight years' experience including a combination of 2-3 years each in public accounting, benefits/payroll accounting, and corporate accounting environment.
  • CPA (or equivalent) is required.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Broad experience with large financial systems such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, Hyperion, etc. is desired.
  • Knowledge of real estate service industry and terminology.
  • Experience with Alteryx and Power BI will be a plus.
  • External and internal audit/SOX compliance experience.
  • Overall understanding and experience in application of GAAP.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to research and simplify complex situations.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization to collect information and drive resolution.
  • Diligent with a proactive approach and the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Consistent record to communicate optimally, both orally and in writing, and interact effectively with top management, employees, representatives of federal and state governments, and external auditors.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data and prepare clear, concise financial reports.
