About the position

The Lead Engineer position at Warner Bros. Discovery is a pivotal role within the Broadcast IT engineering department, responsible for ensuring the technical success of live and taped productions. This role involves overseeing day-to-day operations, incident response, and providing guidance to team members. The Lead Engineer will work with advanced technologies in a state-of-the-art facility, focusing on areas such as studios, production control rooms, and cloud technologies. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Senior Engineer responsible for the technical success of live and taped events.
  • Act as the on-site Engineer-in-Charge for major broadcast productions.
  • Provide tier 2 support for troubleshooting studio cameras, audio, lighting, and ethernet connections.
  • Mentor and coach entry-level staff on technical systems and operations.
  • Communicate department directives effectively to staff and production teams.
  • Document equipment inventory, status, and workflows.
  • Work closely with partners to meet their technical needs and requests.
  • Cultivate relationships between customers and engineering staff to ensure operational readiness.
  • Report daily on operational issues and air-impacting events.
  • Develop, test, and implement new systems, software, and equipment.

Requirements

  • A four-year engineering degree or equivalent work experience in Live Broadcast engineering.
  • 3+ years of live production engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of television maintenance experience.
  • Strong understanding of SMPTE 2110 Standards.
  • Experience in design and implementation of broadcast facility technology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Intercom Systems used in production environments.
  • Understanding of Evertz Routing Systems and Magnum Control.
  • CCNA Certification or Networking background.
  • Experience with Cloud Technologies.
