About the position

The Sr. Analyst within Accounting Systems at CarMax plays a pivotal role in enhancing business processes through automation and continuous improvement. This position requires collaboration with key stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver effective technical solutions. The focus is on business process engineering, operational support, and providing guidance and mentorship to associates. The analyst will leverage their technical expertise to drive the configuration architecture and design of CarMax's Accounting Systems, which includes Oracle Financials, Coupa, Workday, and other proprietary systems. In this role, the analyst will be responsible for the design, configuration, and administration of these systems, ensuring that they align with compliance and policy changes while meeting the business's needs. The analyst will also perform complex analysis, design, development, and unit testing of various software applications. They will design, develop, test, and troubleshoot workflows and datasets in Alteryx for analysis, forecasting, and report delivery. Additionally, the analyst will identify and implement internal process improvements, automate manual processes, and optimize data delivery processes to enhance scalability. The position also involves acting as a liaison between various business areas, discussing concerns, performing root cause analysis, and implementing solutions. The analyst will create and update documentation, including best practices and technical specifications, and lead, mentor, and train less experienced analysts. They will provide troubleshooting support for complex system administration issues and ensure that the CarMax Accounting Systems operate efficiently. Project leadership is another critical aspect of this role, where the analyst will partner with end users to define requirements, translate them into functional specifications, and provide direction to team resources. They will develop comprehensive testing strategies, lead data migration activities, and serve as the point person for system upgrades and implementations. The analyst will utilize their business and technical knowledge to recommend improvements to enhance the Business Partner's system experience and processes, championing change across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage technical ability to drive the overall configuration architecture and technical solutions' design for CarMax's Accounting Systems.
  • Responsible for the design, configuration, and system administration of Oracle Financials, Coupa, Workday, and other proprietary systems.
  • Provide technical insight and influence others with recommendations to ensure system configuration supports compliance and business needs.
  • Perform complex analysis, design, development, and unit testing of various software and applications.
  • Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot workflows and datasets in Alteryx for analysis, forecasting, and report delivery.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements and automate manual processes.
  • Use technical ability to develop code for solutions using VBA, SQL Server, Oracle SQL Developer, Teradata, Python, etc.
  • Act as a liaison with various business areas to discuss concerns and implement solutions.
  • Create and update documentation such as best practices, technical specifications, and architecture diagrams.
  • Lead, mentor, develop, and train less experienced analysts in process automation and continuous improvement methods.
  • Provide troubleshooting for complex system administration and support for CarMax Accounting Systems.

Requirements

  • Hands-on skills and work experience in Alteryx Designer and Alteryx Server.
  • Proficiency in developing and debugging solutions built with Python, VBA, SQL, Power Apps, Power Automate, and SharePoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills to present technical details to a non-technical audience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of accounting principles and SOX controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and MS Access (including VBA) skills.
  • Reporting writing or template creation using Oracle OTBI, BI Publisher, FBDI or Power BI.
  • Proficiency developing and debugging products built with Python.
  • Experience with Power Platform (Canvas/model-driven apps, SharePoint, Microsoft Power Apps).
