About the position

The Sr. Camera Systems Engineer role at AWS Hardware Development involves driving innovation in camera systems for Amazon's Just Walk Out technology. The position requires collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to define, execute, and validate technology solutions that enhance the shopping experience. The engineer will engage in full-cycle product development, addressing challenges in computer vision, machine learning, and hardware design, while working in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to define technology solutions.
  • Drive the full cycle of product development from inception to maturity.
  • Specify system aspects including optical, mechanical, electrical, software, and financial requirements.
  • Write and present recommendations and experiment outcomes to Director level leadership.
  • Ensure operational excellence and product support throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Image Science, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in camera system development, validation, and deployment.
  • Experience in imaging optics, camera modules, lens design, and illumination design.
  • Familiarity with image pipeline in still and video cameras, including video encoding/decoding algorithms.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, Image Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with consumer imaging devices and high-definition video.
  • Knowledge of multi-camera calibration methodology.
  • Experience in imaging control algorithms such as AE/AWB/AF/face tracking.
  • Familiarity with optics design tools like Zemax, Code V, LightTool, FRED, or ASAP.
  • Experience with AWS services like Kinesis or Rekognition.
  • Knowledge of network security and network design.
