About the position

As a Senior Chemical Engineer at Packaging Corporation of America (PCA), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our paper mill operations in Valdosta, Georgia. This position is integral to our mission of delivering exceptional products and services while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. You will be responsible for daily quality control and product testing, supporting mill operations through the supervision of laboratory testing, and ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations. Your primary responsibilities will include developing and maintaining methods for tracking and reducing operational costs, coordinating with outside resources to enhance operations, and conducting data analysis projects to inform business decisions. You will also ensure that all pulp, power, paper, and support operations comply with state and federal environmental permits and laws. In addition, you will consult with engineering teams on capital planning and project implementation for process modifications or upgrades, and support the mill's safety and environmental goals. As part of your role, you will teach employees about safety protocols, quality assurance testing procedures, and the kraft process. You will maintain product specifications that meet industry standards and customer requirements, ensuring that product quality standards are met by monitoring process variables and evaluating test values before shipment approval. This position may also involve additional responsibilities as needed, contributing to the overall success of the mill operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain methods for tracking and reducing operational costs.
  • Coordinate efforts with outside resources to improve operations by utilizing appropriate information.
  • Conduct data analysis projects and use data to make informed business decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental state and federal permits and laws for pulp, power, paper, and support operations.
  • Consult with engineering on capital planning and project implementation for process modifications or upgrades.
  • Support the mill's goals for safety, environmental, and other operational needs.
  • Implement company policy in the workplace and community.
  • Teach employees about safety, quality assurance testing procedures, and general knowledge of the kraft process.
  • Maintain product specifications that adhere to industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Monitor process variables and evaluate test values of finished products against specifications before approval for shipment.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper Science, or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience in technical, quality control, or related work areas.
  • Successful completion of drug screen and authorization to work in the U.S.
