About The Position

The Sr. Chemistry Materials Engineer position at Raytheon in Andover, MA, involves engaging in analytical chemistry testing to support development, design, and failure analysis activities for various product applications. Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • In absence of a degree, 9+ years of experience
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
  • Experience in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis (i.e. Infrared Spectroscopy and Chromatography)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data
  • Understanding and coursework in Materials Science and Polymer Science
  • Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
  • Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations

Responsibilities

  • Assess materials based on conformance to specifications
  • Assess parts and hardware based on conformance to design requirements
  • Conduct hands-on analytical chemistry using a variety of laboratory techniques
  • Follow standard written protocols and develop unique test plans and setups
  • Review material documentation and assess specifications
  • Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage
  • Engage with suppliers
