The Sr. Civil Design Engineer position at ATOMS Services, LLC in Kennewick, Washington, is a critical role that involves the design and analysis of civil engineering projects, particularly in the nuclear sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all designs comply with relevant codes and standards, particularly those related to piping and vessel design. This includes a strong emphasis on the ASME B31 series and the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code. The engineer will also be expected to have a comprehensive understanding of both design and testing requirements as per the applicable codes, ensuring that all projects meet safety and regulatory standards. In this role, the engineer will engage in nuclear safety analysis and participate in the safety basis process, which is essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of nuclear facilities. The position requires experience in analyzing systems to prevent water hammer damage, a critical aspect of piping system design. The engineer will also be involved in evaluating B31 Unlisted Components and conducting fluid flow and thermal analysis to ensure optimal system performance. The ideal candidate will have experience with piping system analysis software, particularly AutoPipe, and will be familiar with TOC procedures and standards. Additionally, the engineer will have experience in the design, operation, and disposal of Hose-in-Hose Transfer Lines (HIHTL), which are vital for safe fluid transfer in nuclear applications. Participation as a member of an ASME code committee is also a valuable asset for this position, as it demonstrates a commitment to industry standards and continuous improvement in engineering practices.

Requirements

  • Currently certified as Registered Professional Engineer (PE), ideally in State of Washington.
  • Extensive knowledge of and proficiency in applicable orders, codes, and standards with emphasis on piping and vessel design including ASME B31 series, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Extensive knowledge of both design and testing requirements per code.
  • Experience with nuclear safety analysis and safety basis process.
  • Experience of analysis to prevent water hammer damage to piping systems.
  • Experience of B31 Unlisted Component evaluations.
  • Experience of fluid flow and thermal analysis problems.
  • Knowledge of piping system analysis software including AutoPipe.
  • Prior experience with TOC procedures and standards.
  • Experience with Hose-in-Hose Transfer Lines (HIHTL) design, operation and disposal.
  • Experience as an ASME code committee member.
