About the position

AECOM is seeking a Sr Civil Engineer - Transit/Rail Design Engineer IV to be based in Murray, UT. This position is a key role within the US West Region Transit/Rail Engineering Group, focusing on a diverse set of exciting transit projects, particularly in supporting the regional Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) design team. The Salt Lake City office is highly regarded and is poised for growth in Utah's expanding market, which is driven by the state legislature's prioritization of multimodal transportation and economic growth. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work on planning studies, preliminary design studies, and final design of BRT and LRT projects, while also providing leadership and mentorship to entry-level engineers. The senior civil engineer will serve as a team lead, deputy project manager, and/or technical task leader, coordinating with team members and supporting business development efforts. Responsibilities include preparing engineering-related calculations, developing drawings for BRT and LRT infrastructure, and ensuring that work is performed in accordance with the agreed-upon budget and schedule with minimal supervision. The position requires a strong background in transportation design, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multi-discipline design teams. Responsibilities

  • Serve as an AECOM team and/or discipline lead, deputy project manager and/or technical task leader on planning studies, preliminary design studies, and final design of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) or Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects.
  • Coordinate, cooperate, and work collaboratively with other team members as well as support business development.
  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings for BRT and LRT infrastructure.
  • Coordinate tasks and provide leadership and mentorship to entry-level engineers.
  • Perform work in accordance with the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (preferred).
  • Professional Engineering license in Utah (or ability to obtain).
  • 6 years of relevant experience in transportation design, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD/Civil 3D or Microstation/Power InRoads or Power GeoPak.
  • Ability to prepare engineering design reports and construction drawings for highway, roadway, transit, and/or rail.
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with design teams consisting of multi-discipline design engineers and technicians.
  • Bus Rapid Transit design experience.
  • Light Rail Transit design experience.
  • Familiarity with BRT/LRT standards and best practices.
  • Be detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
