About the position

The Sr Civil/Environmental Engineer at Waste Management is responsible for overseeing engineering and construction projects at solid waste disposal facilities. This role requires significant experience in the environmental and solid waste industry, with a focus on problem-solving and management skills. The engineer will manage landfill construction projects, maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, and mentor junior staff while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Engages, directs, and manages professional consulting firms for various tasks at solid waste facilities.
• Maintains strong working relationships with regulators and serves as a communication link on technical and permitting matters.
• Manages landfill construction projects from preparation of construction plans to final approval.
• Tracks capital budgets for engineering and construction projects and reports to local management and corporate.
• Coordinates landfill capacity tracking and develops efficient fill sequencing plans.
• Evaluates sites for adherence to construction and permit documents and pursues necessary permits.
• Collaborates with other professionals to provide innovative engineering solutions to operational and compliance issues.
• Participates in review of acquisitions and evaluations of divestitures, assisting in due diligence.
• Mentors and supervises WM technical staff assigned to the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (accredited).
• Five years of related experience in the environmental and solid waste industry.
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with various audiences.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, including solid waste, air, storm water, and wastewater.
• In-depth knowledge of landfill design and permitting.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to lead environmental, engineering, and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents and regulations.
• Working knowledge of safety regulations.
• Understanding of accounting processes and P&L statements.
