About the position

The Senior Civil/Structural Engineer will provide immediate on-call support for FEMA's Public Assistance Program, focusing on disaster management and recovery efforts. This role involves traveling to disaster sites, assisting local government agencies with grant applications, and performing site assessments of damaged infrastructure. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and the ability to work under pressure, with an initial emphasis on onsite work transitioning to a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

• Travel to disaster sites to support FEMA requirements in the delivery of the PA Program.
• Assist local government agencies in preparing grant applications for restoring damaged public infrastructure.
• Perform site assessments of disaster-damaged infrastructure.
• Develop and review detailed damage descriptions and repair scopes of work.
• Develop and review detailed cost estimates for restoration projects.
• Assist the hazard mitigation team in developing mitigation opportunities.
• Carry out timely and accurate duties as requested.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• 12+ years of full-time professional experience in Civil or Structural engineering working with public infrastructure.
• Must be able and willing to travel as required for project work.
• Must have a valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of the FEMA Public Assistance Program.
• Prior FEMA Public Assistance experience as a Site Inspector, Cost Estimator, or Hazard Mitigation Specialist.
• Experience using FEMA's Grants Manager Portal.
• Proficiency using cost estimating software such as RS Means and Xactimate.
• Experience with modern construction practices and facility assessments.
• Working knowledge of International Building Code (IBC) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
