About the position

The Sr. Clinical Medical Liaison in the Obesity Therapeutic Area at Amgen plays a crucial role in driving clinical excellence and supporting the execution of medical strategies and clinical trials. This position emphasizes scientific and medical leadership, focusing on accelerating clinical trial recruitment, ensuring subject retention, and engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). The role requires a high level of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaboration to enhance patient outcomes and advance the company's scientific platform.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure efficient trial start-up, subject enrollment, retention, and execution.
  • Identify and implement local scientific engagement plans, mapping KOLs and engaging them in clinical trial activities.
  • Provide scientific and medical expertise during site selection and throughout trial phases.
  • Lead discussions with clinical experts to guide trial execution and ensure site staff are trained on trial scientific backgrounds.
  • Resolve medical challenges and support CRAs on operational issues during clinical trial execution.
  • Engage in peer-to-peer scientific exchange with KOLs and healthcare providers to advance the company's scientific platform.
  • Collect, analyze, and share early scientific insights by discussing development data with external experts.
  • Act as a therapeutic area expert and provide leadership in the scientific community through advisory boards and scientific meetings.
  • Partner with clinical operations and cross-functional teams to align on medical and scientific objectives.
  • Provide timely and expert medical guidance to clinical staff, including creating and delivering training programs.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree & 2 years of Medical Affairs experience
  • Master's degree & 6 years of Medical Affairs experience
  • Bachelor's degree & 8 years of Medical Affairs experience
  • Expertise in managing clinical trials from a medical perspective with a strong understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and local regulations
  • Strong scientific acumen and ability to communicate complex medical information effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with KOLs and other key stakeholders
  • High level of initiative, innovation, and independence in performing tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D. or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered)
  • Seven or more years in a medically related field, including 1 year focused on clinical practice or research
  • 2+ years in a medical science liaison role in a biotech or pharmaceutical company
  • Current experience in Scientific Affairs or Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company
  • Obesity and/or Cardiovascular Metabolic expertise
  • Experience with management of clinical trials.
