About the position
EKN Engineering is fast-growing civil engineering and technology consulting company seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer. An ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, a product mindset, and takes a hands-on approach for driving engineering best practices. As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will design and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure, and implement best practices for CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), logging, monitoring, and automation. You will have a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications, customizing them to help our business remain secure and efficient.
Responsibilities
- Guide the development and architecture of EKN’s DevOps platform.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams.
- Assess and identify risks that may be present to achieving the team’s larger goals.
- Document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance.
- Work in partnership with our software development teams and leaders to identify and implement optimal cloud-based solutions for the company.
- Drive implementation of functionally appropriate and technically sound solutions meeting all quality & security standards.
- Identify and resolve technical problems.
- Utilize analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges.
- Be part of the team to achieve collective goals, providing regular feedback, and driving continuous improvement.
- Participate in all aspects of our software development lifecycle for cloud-based solutions, including planning, defining requirements, developing, and testing those solutions with the team.
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and platforms used to manage, control cost, and secure our cloud platform.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
- 5+ years of DevOps experience, with a focus on AWS
- Experience with cloud environments (e.g. AWS) and Infrastructure as Code principles and tools (e.g. Terraform or similar infrastructure as code tools)
- Strong experience with AWS services such as EKS, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
- Solid understanding of networking, security, and system administration
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions or similar tools
- Experience with version control systems such as Git or similar tools
- Experience with Jira or similar tools
- Solid scripting skills in languages such as Python or Bash
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong communication with a collaborative, customer-focused mindset
Nice-to-haves
- Prior experience as a software developer, including full-stack AWS Cloud Native development with Typescript and/or Python
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, Sentry or CloudWatch
- Knowledge of database management and optimization
