Sr. Cloud Engineer

About the position

EKN Engineering is fast-growing civil engineering and technology consulting company seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer. An ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, a product mindset, and takes a hands-on approach for driving engineering best practices. As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will design and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure, and implement best practices for CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), logging, monitoring, and automation. You will have a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications, customizing them to help our business remain secure and efficient.

Responsibilities

• Guide the development and architecture of EKN’s DevOps platform.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams.
• Assess and identify risks that may be present to achieving the team’s larger goals.
• Document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance.
• Work in partnership with our software development teams and leaders to identify and implement optimal cloud-based solutions for the company.
• Drive implementation of functionally appropriate and technically sound solutions meeting all quality & security standards.
• Identify and resolve technical problems.
• Utilize analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges.
• Be part of the team to achieve collective goals, providing regular feedback, and driving continuous improvement.
• Participate in all aspects of our software development lifecycle for cloud-based solutions, including planning, defining requirements, developing, and testing those solutions with the team.
• Evaluate new technologies, tools, and platforms used to manage, control cost, and secure our cloud platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
• 5+ years of DevOps experience, with a focus on AWS
• Experience with cloud environments (e.g. AWS) and Infrastructure as Code principles and tools (e.g. Terraform or similar infrastructure as code tools)
• Strong experience with AWS services such as EKS, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
• Solid understanding of networking, security, and system administration
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions or similar tools
• Experience with version control systems such as Git or similar tools
• Experience with Jira or similar tools
• Solid scripting skills in languages such as Python or Bash
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Strong communication with a collaborative, customer-focused mindset

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience as a software developer, including full-stack AWS Cloud Native development with Typescript and/or Python
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, Sentry or CloudWatch
• Knowledge of database management and optimization
