About the position

As a Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter at Berkley Southwest, you will manage and grow an assigned book of business while acquiring new business. Your role involves evaluating individual risks, determining terms and pricing, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines. You will also provide informal leadership to less experienced underwriters and work closely with agents and brokers to foster productive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business by reviewing applications for acceptability and requesting additional information as necessary.
• Underwrite renewal business by reviewing insured's files and prior loss experiences.
• Assist the Commercial Lines Vice President in developing new products and pricing.
• Develop productive and profitable relationships with agents and brokers.
• Maintain an established loss ratio and meet production goals.
• Serve as the staff liaison for the assigned line, disseminating updates and developing staff.
• Travel within the assigned territory for customer development and agency visits.
• Participate in continuing education and assist in training other personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in insurance or related field or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of seven years of commercial lines management and/or marketing experience.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a profitable commercial lines book of business.
• Strong analytical skills to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to read and interpret business periodicals and governmental regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
