About the position

This is a professional Corrections position that requires the following skills: good communication, conflict management and problem-solving, time management, initiative and accountability, professionalism, integrity and good judgment. The Senior Community Corrections Officer assists the Supervisor or designee with special projects, and coordinating or facilitating training activities for other staff. May also perform administrative support functions such as quality assurance reviews, policy development and review, compliance audits, and training. Work is performed with independence under the general supervision of the assigned Supervisor and may function as a point of contact in the absence of the supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and results achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Contact with offenders.
  • Conducts interview sessions with specific emphasis on goal oriented and socially accepted behavior.
  • Monitors, investigates, and/or enforces offender adherence to program requirements.
  • Conducts drug testing on offenders.
  • Attends and participates in court hearings.
  • Analyzes documentation and makes recommendation regarding sentencing.
  • Provides referral information (e.g. vocational, educational and social services).
  • Facilitates training of other staff as directed by the Unit Supervisor.
  • Prepares written documentation, correspondence and case documentation.
  • Supervises a high risk and/or specialized caseload.
  • Provides quality assurance audits and monitor compliance with policies, procedures and accreditation standards.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of targeted programming for offenders/inmates.
  • Communicates with criminal justice partners.
  • Interview and assist offenders with re-entry and resources.
  • Facilitate cognitive skills classes to offenders.
  • Coordinates monthly and annual revisions of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for each unit and assists in the development of new division policies.
  • Performs quality assurance and compliance reviews to ensure operational efficiency, to include written reports documenting the outcome of reviews and recommendations.
  • Participates in policy review and development.
  • Gathers statistical data and generates professional reports for supervisory review, and/or program management.
  • Completes special projects at the direction of the division Assistant Manager/Manager or designee.
  • Provides regular feedback to supervisory staff of outcomes from quality assurance reviews.
  • May perform back up duties for the unit supervisors on a limited basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience in a correctional facility, case management, public safety or prior experience as a Community Corrections Officer.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Drivers License.
