About the position

The Senior Communications Specialist - Tech Writer at Leidos plays a pivotal role in supporting the Intelligence Community (IC) program in Bethesda, MD. This position requires an active TS/SCI with polygraph security clearance, which is mandatory for consideration. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of communication support tasks, including technical editing, development, preparation, production, coordination, and editing of a wide range of products. These products may include finished intelligence documents, strategy and planning papers, talking points, and speeches. The role demands a high level of collaboration with government staff and subject matter experts to ensure that all communication materials are accurate, consistent, and meet the required standards of style and readability. In this position, the Senior Communications Specialist will mentor and train junior staff, utilizing tools such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite to create compelling content. The candidate will also be responsible for managing communication requests through tools like NarQuest, ensuring swift and high-quality customer support. The role involves extensive research, proofreading, editing, and formatting of products for both hardcopy and electronic publication, ensuring that all materials are disseminated across multiple platforms effectively. The candidate will draft and edit various communication materials, including talking points, speeches, leadership communications, and marketing copy. They will serve as the primary author for fact sheets, pamphlets, and website content, and will be expected to initiate, plan, execute, and report on tasks independently. Additionally, the Senior Communications Specialist will prepare and edit speeches or scripts for senior executives, ensuring that complex information is conveyed clearly and simply. The position requires a strong understanding of tradecraft and publication standards, as well as the ability to advise and coach leadership on effective presentation and delivery of speeches.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communication support for the ODNI, including the development and editing of finished intelligence products, strategy documents, and speeches.
  • Prepare assignments based on input from subject matter experts.
  • Mentor and train junior staff in communication practices.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud suite to create compelling content.
  • Manage communication requests using tools like NarQuest for high-quality customer support.
  • Research, proofread, edit, and format products for publication across various platforms.
  • Draft and edit communication materials such as talking points, speeches, and marketing copy.
  • Serve as the primary author for fact sheets, pamphlets, and website content.
  • Initiate, plan, execute, and report on tasks independently.
  • Prepare and edit speeches or scripts for senior executives for various delivery formats.
  • Ensure all products meet tradecraft and publication standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 18+ years of experience, Master's degree with 10+ years of experience, or no degree with 24+ years of experience.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, collaboration tools like MS Teams and SharePoint, and Adobe Creative Suite.
