The Sr. Compensation Analyst at Northwestern Medicine plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's compensation strategy and pay programs. The analyst will work under the general direction of the System Compensation Manager and will be responsible for interacting with various levels within the organization to deliver effective compensation solutions. This role requires significant discretion and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The primary responsibilities include conducting comprehensive market reviews to assess base pay, which involves identifying, extracting, and manipulating compensation data from both internal and external sources. The analyst will provide summary findings and recommendations to the Compensation Manager and stakeholders, including insights on budgetary impacts and implementation protocols. Additionally, the analyst will be responsible for the merit program, which includes gathering external market data and trends to inform the annual salary increase budget and reviewing current salary plan ranges. Incentive and special pay programs are also under the purview of the Sr. Compensation Analyst, who will coordinate the annual employee bonus program and develop other compensation programs as needed. The role includes reviewing job descriptions and determining salary plans and grades for new or existing positions, as well as conducting market research to inform Total Rewards and Talent Programs. The analyst will also engage in generalist responsibilities, consulting with management and employees on compensation practices, authorizing non-standard personnel actions, and maintaining the integrity of compensation data in PeopleSoft. The position requires proactive identification of operational improvement opportunities and the management of special projects as assigned. Overall, this role is integral to ensuring that Northwestern Medicine remains competitive in its compensation offerings while supporting the organization's commitment to equity and service.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct base pay market reviews, including the identification, extraction, and manipulation of compensation data.
  • Provide summary findings and recommendations to the Compensation Manager and stakeholders regarding budgetary impacts and implementation protocols.
  • Gather and summarize external market data and trends for the annual salary increase budget and review current salary plan ranges.
  • Coordinate the annual employee bonus program and develop other incentive or special compensation programs as needed.
  • Review and approve incoming job descriptions for new or existing positions, determining salary plans and grades.
  • Conduct market research to inform Total Rewards and Talent Programs, including PTO Program and Physician Compensation.
  • Consult with management and employees on current compensation practices and provide training sessions as needed.
  • Maintain the integrity of compensation data in PeopleSoft and serve as a key resource for compensation practices.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement and manage special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Finance, or Business.
  • 3 or more years of Compensation experience and 5+ years of relevant HR/Finance experience (minimum of 8-10 years total experience).
  • Operating knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar HRIS software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Superior project and time management skills.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board Presentation Experience and PowerPoint skills.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Profession in Human Resources (PHR) designation.
  • Master's Degree.
