About the position

The Senior Construction Inspector role at Jacobs involves overseeing and inspecting various construction activities related to civil engineering projects, particularly in transportation. The position requires a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and safety regulations to ensure compliance with contract documents. The inspector will work independently in the field and office, making critical decisions regarding ongoing construction work and addressing any issues that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality validation/verification inspections to ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications on civil work.
  • Conduct quantity calculations and measurements for progress pay estimates and maintain daily project records.
  • Perform labor compliance interviews and assist with the preparation, analysis, and review of contract change orders.
  • Assist with the review of Critical Path Method (CPM) Schedule analysis.
  • Enforce the Water Pollution Control Program (SWPPP).
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with the Resident Engineer, Project Manager, Principal Assistant Resident Engineer, field personnel, public outreach personnel, and construction administration staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering.
  • 15+ years of relevant civil/structural inspection and construction management experience on highway construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of Caltrans Standard Plans and Standard Specifications.
  • Valid California Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk construction sites, including walking up and down slopes, climbing ladders, and walking on scaffolding and other temporary structures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in construction management or engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans Construction Manual and Caltrans Bridge Construction Records Manual.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, physical characteristics and properties of roadway, structures, drainage and utility systems construction materials, and approved methods and equipment used in making physical tests of construction materials.
