About the position

The Senior Construction Civil Inspector will be responsible for performing inspections on various civil construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents and safety regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and the ability to work independently in a construction field office. The inspector will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure project success and maintain a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality validation/verification inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on civil work.
  • Perform quantity calculations and measurement for progress pay estimates and keep daily project records.
  • Conduct labor compliance interviews and assist with preparation, analysis, and review of contract change orders.
  • Assist with the review of Critical Path Method (CPM) Schedule analysis.
  • Assist with Water Pollution Control Program (SWPPP) enforcement.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with the Resident Engineer, Project Manager, Principal Assistant Resident Engineer, field personnel, public outreach personnel, and construction administration staff.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant civil/structural inspection and construction management experience on highway construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of Caltrans Standard Plans and Standard Specifications.
  • Valid California Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk construction site, including walking up and down slopes, climbing ladders, and walking on scaffolding and other temporary structures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans Construction Manual and Caltrans Bridge Construction Records Manual.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, physical characteristics and properties of roadway, structures, drainage and utility systems construction materials, and approved methods and equipment used in making physical tests of construction materials.
