About the position

The Sr Consultant, Data Governance role at Northern Trust involves developing and maintaining data governance standards and processes to ensure data quality and consistency across the organization. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to manage data-related strategies and compliance, while also executing both operational and strategic initiatives within the data governance framework.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tools and processes to maintain a common data standard across the organization.
  • Assess, manage, and maintain strategies that reduce data redundancy and increase the consistency and confidence of data used for decision-making.
  • Define and deliver data management standards, processes, controls, and content for the creation and maintenance of common data dictionaries.
  • Participate in periodic reviews to ensure compliance with data governance policies, including compliance assessments and monitoring.
  • Resolve conflicting priorities among data owners, data consumers, and custodians within the domain.
  • Collaborate with partners across the organization to maintain data governance and data quality structures, balancing business needs with quality, risk, and cost.
  • Carry out large scope, cross-functional, and technically difficult activities.
  • Balance high-level operational execution with the strategic direction of business function activities.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis.
  • Interact directly with different committees and/or management.
  • Strategically develop, implement, and administer programs within functional areas.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Data Governance, Data Quality, and Enterprise Data Management concepts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the role of Data Governance to both business and technical communities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • In-depth functional or industry knowledge.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Technical skills and systems knowledge (e.g., Peoplesoft).
  • A college or university degree and/or relevant proven work experience is required/preferred.
  • Related industry qualification (e.g., ACCA) is required/preferred.
