About the position

The Sr. Consultant - Systems Engineer position within Visa's IaaS Systems and Storage & Engineering (ISSE) team is a pivotal role that focuses on developing secure and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions. This team is part of the Operations & Infrastructure technology organization, which aims to deliver best-in-class infrastructure on demand. The vision of the ISSE team is to engineer and build reliable and secure infrastructure for various workloads in Private and Hybrid Cloud environments, utilizing innovative technologies at optimal costs. The purpose of this role is to enhance the innovation velocity of developers while minimizing infrastructure maintenance overhead, aligning with Visa's overarching mission to provide the best payment solutions globally. In this role, you will leverage your extensive experience in designing and implementing infrastructure solutions on major public clouds such as AWS, GCP, and Azure. You will be responsible for establishing and promoting standard foundational services for Visa's public cloud implementation, ensuring that solutions are designed with a robust security posture, cost optimization, and enhanced developer productivity in mind. Your contributions will directly impact the evolution of Visa's Global Payment systems, driving business growth and operational efficiency. As a Sr. Consultant, you will collaborate with Cloud Architects and fellow engineers to contribute to Visa's public cloud strategy and standardization. You will mature the cloud ecosystem by establishing standards and integrating various infrastructure management domains, including logging, monitoring, configuration management, and orchestration. Your role will also involve advocating for a cloud-native approach in developing new solutions while ensuring seamless integration with existing legacy systems. You will be expected to incorporate security measures throughout all project stages and facilitate knowledge transfer to peers and operational teams, thereby mentoring junior team members to enhance their skills and competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Cloud Architects and fellow engineers to actively contribute to our public cloud strategy and standardization.
  • Mature the cloud ecosystem, establish standards, and integrate infrastructure management domains including logging, monitoring, configuration management, and orchestration.
  • Design and implement agile, innovative cloud infrastructure and management solutions that harness technology advancements for scalability, performance, and cost optimization.
  • Advocate a cloud-native approach for the development of greenfield solutions, ensuring integration with legacy solutions while considering business goals and requirements.
  • Identify and utilize standard toolsets to develop and enhance continuous delivery and continuous integration processes.
  • Incorporate security measures into all project stages - design, implementation, and operations.
  • Define, document, and maintain standard designs and processes.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to peers and the operation teams on solution architecture, design, and delivery.
  • Mentor junior team members to level up team competencies and skills.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of various AWS/GCP/Azure services such as networking, compute, database, IAM, etc.
  • Experience in designing, building, and supporting large-scale production systems in cloud or migrating to the cloud, practicing infrastructure as code, automated testing, autoscaling, and self-healing.
  • Extensive experience in infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform and Pulumi and configuration management tools such as Ansible.
  • Experience in managing production container ecosystems - Docker, Kubernetes, Service Mesh (Istio or Linkerd), CNI (Calico, Cilium).
  • Experience of the Software Development Process including Continuous Integration pipeline tools such as Jenkins and GitLab.
  • Experience in container CICD in Kubernetes environments using tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
  • Experience with cloud-native monitoring and APM tools such as AWS Cloudwatch, GCP Cloud Operations Suites, and Azure Monitor.
  • Experience in optimizing monitoring and observability systems and familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry standards.
  • Strong knowledge in Linux and working knowledge in one of the scripting languages such as Python, Nodejs, or Golang.
  • Knowledge of security tools and standard methodologies such as CIS Benchmarking, OS hardening, vulnerability scanning, and system auditing.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently to solve sophisticated engineering problems.
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills conducive to collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

  • 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical or other relevant engineering field.
