About the position

As a Lead Content Strategist at PayPal, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the content strategy and ensuring editorial quality across multiple cross-functional product delivery teams. This position involves leading a team of Content Designers who collaborate closely with UX Designers, Product Managers, and Researchers to create user experiences that empower individuals and businesses globally. Your leadership will inspire the team to advocate for customers, develop the necessary information, and communicate effectively in a manner that resonates with users, fostering a sense of care and understanding. In this role, you will be responsible for defining a clear and actionable strategic direction for content within your product area. You will work alongside your team of writers to ensure that the content aligns with the established strategy and adheres to PayPal's high standards. Utilizing data and customer feedback, you will measure the effectiveness of the content strategy and make real-time adjustments as needed. Collaboration with the Content Community of Practice team will be essential as you help define, develop, and implement content strategy frameworks, toolkits, and guidelines aimed at creating world-class experiences at scale. Additionally, you will coordinate with Brand, Marketing, and Operations teams to ensure a consistent end-to-end experience for users. Your expertise will be crucial in evaluating the impact of your content through data and research, driving continuous improvement that yields tangible results. As an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging, terminology, writing, and style, you will reach across various disciplines and departments to demonstrate the power of content in building lasting and meaningful relationships with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a small team of Content Designers, including line management, performance management, and professional development.
  • Inspire the team to advocate for customers and develop the information they need, determining effective communication methods.
  • Drive the definition of a clear and actionable strategic direction for content in your product area.
  • Ensure content is implemented to deliver against the strategy and to PayPal standards.
  • Use data and customer feedback to measure the effectiveness of the content strategy and pivot as needed in real time.
  • Collaborate with the Content Community of Practice team to define, develop, and implement content strategy frameworks, toolkits, and guidelines.
  • Coordinate content with Brand, Marketing, and Operations teams to ensure a consistent end-to-end experience.
  • Evaluate content's impact using data and research, pushing for continuous improvement that shows real results.
  • Serve as an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging, terminology, writing, and style.
  • Demonstrate how content can create lasting and meaningful relationships with customers across disciplines and departments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience writing for multiple channels and platforms, such as websites, apps, email, and social media.
  • 3+ years of experience managing or mentoring writers.
  • Ability to understand a customer's larger journey through research and data analysis.
  • Expertise in using design thinking to create great products, alongside understanding brand and marketing methodologies.
  • Proven track record of positioning content as an engagement tool that transforms customer relationships.
  • Experience in overcoming organizational obstacles and building sustainable frameworks and partnerships.
  • Preferred experience in financial services, payments, B2B or B2C e-commerce.
