About the position

The Sr Controllership Manager at Honeywell International, Inc. in Des Plaines, IL, is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate accounting policies, U.S. GAAP, and statutory requirements related to customer contracts and business proposals. This position requires a deep understanding of technical accounting guidance, particularly in business-specific scenario analysis, and the ability to prepare comprehensive white papers. The Sr Controllership Manager will collaborate closely with UOP leadership and Finance teams to structure and interpret key contract provisions, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment is applied. In addition to contract management, the role involves providing guidance on joint venture structures, related accounting, and reporting matters. The Sr Controllership Manager will actively participate in merger and acquisition diligence and integration activities, assisting with the monthly and quarterly close processes. This includes reviewing journal entries with finance teams and accountants, as well as overseeing unbilled receivables, advances, and other aspects of long-term contract accounting. The position also entails providing Schedule of Executive Authority (SEA) guidance for bids and proposals, purchase commitments, and service arrangements. A critical aspect of this role is ensuring that internal controls are effectively designed and operating. The Sr Controllership Manager will identify deficiencies, develop corrective action plans, and monitor for timely remediation and closure. The position also includes conducting balance sheet reviews, supporting internal and external audits, and reviewing significant transactions with external auditors to address any questions or observations. Furthermore, the Sr Controllership Manager will support quarterly reporting requirements, including disclosure schedules and miscellaneous accounting matters.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, U.S. GAAP, and statutory requirements regarding customer contracts and business proposals.
  • Research technical accounting guidance for business-specific scenario analysis and prepare white papers.
  • Collaborate with UOP leadership and Finance teams on structuring and interpreting key contract provisions for appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Provide guidance to business teams regarding joint venture structures, related accounting, and reporting matters.
  • Participate in merger and acquisition diligence and integration activities.
  • Assist with the monthly/quarterly close process, reviewing journal entries with finance teams and accountants.
  • Review unbilled receivables, advances, and other aspects of long-term contract accounting.
  • Provide Schedule of Executive Authority (SEA) guidance for bids and proposals, purchase commitments, and service arrangements.
  • Ensure internal controls are designed and operating effectively, identify deficiencies, develop corrective action plans, and monitor for timely remediation and closure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of direct accounting and financial analysis experience in progressively responsible roles.
  • Oversight responsibilities for accounting and financial analysis.
  • Technical accounting knowledge and research skills in U.S. GAAP, particularly related to revenue recognition (ASC 606).
  • Experience performing contract reviews including modification, renewal options, post-contract customer support, and termination clauses.
  • Accounting experience for joint ventures and related consolidation evaluation.
  • Experience with SOX 404, including assessing internal control framework and evaluating effectiveness of controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting for business combinations (ASC 805), including reviewing opening balance sheets and fair value measurement.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and develop strong working relationships across organizational boundaries.
  • Understanding of the financial statement close process, including journal entry review and account reconciliation.
  • Experience leading and coaching junior team members.
  • Must be a licensed CPA.
