About the position

The Sr. Controls Engineer at Royal Cup, Inc. plays a crucial role in overseeing the manufacturing plant's control systems. This position is responsible for both new and existing control equipment, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and effectively. The engineer will report directly to the Director of Maintenance & Engineering and will be tasked with managing outside vendors who program and troubleshoot plant control equipment. This role is pivotal in maintaining the high standards of service and operational excellence that Royal Cup is known for, as it directly impacts the quality of products delivered to customers. In this position, the Sr. Controls Engineer will provide training and guidance to shift controls technicians, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to handle the complexities of plant operations. Troubleshooting and programming the plant's Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs) will be a significant part of the job, as will managing outside maintenance contracts related to the Manufacturing Execution System (MES). The engineer will also be responsible for conducting root-cause analysis of any control issues that arise, developing long-term solutions to prevent recurrence. Additionally, programming HMI screens using iFix software will be part of the responsibilities, along with providing limited on-call support as needed. The role may also involve coaching and mentoring other team members, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and development. The Sr. Controls Engineer will be expected to perform all other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team and the company as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and guidance to shift controls technicians.
  • Troubleshoot and program plant's Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs).
  • Manage outside maintenance contracts for plant controls including Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Responsible for root-cause analysis of plant controls issues and developing long-term solutions to resolve these issues.
  • Program HMI screens using iFix software.
  • Provide limited on-call support as business needs require.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or another related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in controls engineering.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting electrical controls.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting electrical control wiring issues.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards for industrial plants, including NFPA 70E standards.
  • Familiarity with safety standards for industrial plants, including NFPA 70E standards.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley (Control Logix, CompactLogix) PLCs, Panel View/ Panel View Plus HMIs, and Industrial communications networks.
  • Experience with servers and other IT/OT equipment.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience programming and networking Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Excellent verbal, problem-solving, and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong technical knowledge of programming plant PLCs.
  • Experience with Modicon, Omron, and Proficy iFix.
  • Experience with servers and other IT/OT equipment.
