About the position

As a Senior Copywriter at CarMax, you will play a pivotal role in our Brand Creative team, where your creative problem-solving skills will be put to the test. This position is designed for individuals who are not only adept at crafting engaging and distinctive brand awareness marketing but also thrive in a collaborative environment. You will work closely with Art Directors, Creative Directors, and Strategists to develop innovative concepts that resonate across various media platforms. Your unique perspective will contribute to our vibrant team culture, which is dedicated to building brand affinity and achieving strategic goals through innovative and inspiring brand assets and communications. In this role, you will be responsible for creating compelling written content that supports awareness messaging while adhering to CarMax's brand standards and messaging. You will collaborate with creative and strategy teams to brainstorm, articulate, and develop innovative concepts that align with our strategic direction. Presenting your concepts and deliverables to partners, stakeholders, and the broader creative and marketing teams will be a key part of your responsibilities, ensuring that all work aligns with strategy briefs and brand guidelines. Upholding the brand's voice and ensuring copy integrity, including grammar and spelling, will be essential to your success. You will need to balance and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously while staying updated on evolving brand trends. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is eager to innovate with a growing team and has experience working within brand guidelines. Together, we will create marketing materials that build awareness and enhance affinity for CarMax and the experiences we offer our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Create compelling written content that supports awareness messaging adhering to CarMax brand standards and messaging.
  • Collaborate with creative and strategy teams to brainstorm, articulate, and develop innovative concepts.
  • Interpret strategic direction to develop clear and consistent solutions and copy.
  • Present concepts and deliverables to partners, stakeholders, and the broader creative and marketing teams, ensuring alignment with strategy briefs and brand guidelines.
  • Uphold the brand's voice and ensure copy integrity, including grammar and spelling.
  • Balance and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Stay updated on evolving brand trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or communications preferred; graduation from an advertising/portfolio school or equivalent professional experience may be substituted.
  • 4+ years of professional copywriting experience, primarily in a creative in-house or agency setting.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Art Directors and writers, contributing to objectives and providing constructive feedback.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to write in a specific voice and style.
  • Extensive experience working with cross-functional teams to brainstorm, develop, and execute campaigns.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Passionate about innovation and eager to challenge the status quo.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
