This includes emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, labeling and removing infectious waste, and transporting soiled linen appropriately. A significant portion of the job, approximately 30%, is dedicated to floor care, which encompasses sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and using specialized equipment for cleaning various types of flooring. The custodian will operate electric and battery-powered equipment such as floor polishers and carpet shampoo machines to ensure that all areas, including patient rooms, laboratories, and hallways, are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness. General cleaning duties account for 50% of the role, which includes dusting and washing furniture and fixtures in a variety of settings, including offices, classrooms, and patient areas. The custodian will also be responsible for cleaning restrooms and other common areas, ensuring that all surfaces are sanitized and well-maintained. Additionally, the role involves managing supplies and equipment, including requisitioning cleaning materials and maintaining inventory in storage closets. The custodian may also be required to perform other related duties as assigned, which could include moving furniture, cleaning after patient discharges, and responding to emergencies as needed.
