About the position

Resource 1 is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Data Architect for a remote contract position with our client based in Illinois. This role is crucial for the successful execution of a long-term project, with an initial contract term of 3 months and the potential for extensions into the following year. The Sr. Data Architect will play a pivotal role in understanding and documenting the data requirements by engaging with Data Engineers, Analysts, and Users to ensure comprehensive data solutions are developed. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and maintaining data architecture frameworks that align with the organization's data strategy and business objectives. This includes analyzing complex data sets and creating robust, scalable data models that can accommodate both current and future business needs. The role requires leveraging various tools such as Lucidchart, Erwin, Power BI, and Azure data services to design, document, and visualize data models effectively. Additionally, the Sr. Data Architect will create and manage slowly-changing dimensions to accurately capture historical data, optimize data performance, and ensure scalable solutions for high-volume data processing. Collaboration with data engineering and data product teams is essential to align data architecture with technical requirements and project goals. The ability to communicate data architecture designs and strategies effectively to stakeholders at various levels is also a key aspect of this role. Furthermore, the architect will analyze and anticipate future data needs and trends to proactively address potential challenges and opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understand and document requirements by engaging with Data Engineers, Analysts, and Users to ensure comprehensive data solutions.
  • Design and maintain data architecture frameworks that support the organization's data strategy and business objectives.
  • Analyze complex data sets and design robust, scalable data models that accommodate both current and future business needs.
  • Leverage tools such as Lucidchart, Erwin, Power BI, and Azure data services to design, document, and visualize data models.
  • Create and manage slowly-changing dimensions to capture historical data accurately.
  • Optimize data performance and ensure scalable solutions for high-volume data processing.
  • Work closely with data engineering and data product teams to align data architecture with technical requirements and project goals.
  • Communicate data architecture designs and strategies effectively to stakeholders at various levels.
  • Analyze and anticipate future data needs and trends to proactively address potential challenges and opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of IT experience with a heavy emphasis on Data and Data Architecture.
  • Proven expertise in data modeling, including experience with tools such as Lucidchart or Erwin.
  • Proficient in Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
  • Experience working in an Azure environment, including understanding how data is stored in Azure Gen 2.
  • Experience with Databricks.
  • Strong knowledge of foreign keys, primary keys, and relational database principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with data streaming technologies, particularly for handling large datasets (terabytes or petabytes).
  • Basic exposure to Kafka and Airflow.
  • Be proactive, forward-thinking, and capable of adapting to evolving technologies and business requirements.
