About the position

The Sr. Data Architect position is a long-term role focused on designing and managing enterprise data warehouse environments, particularly utilizing technologies such as Greenplum, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data architecture, database design, and data engineering, with a strong emphasis on cloud environments, especially AWS. This role requires proficiency in developing data pipelines, ETL processes, and optimizing databases for large datasets, while also providing guidance to junior developers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage enterprise data warehouse environments, especially on Greenplum, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server.
• Develop and optimize data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Perform performance tuning and optimization of databases for large datasets.
• Utilize cloud environments, particularly AWS, for data management and security.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Document solution architecture and develop design documents and user guides using MS Project and Visio.
• Attend customer technical discussions and provide technical inputs to enhance code quality and processes.
• Provide guidance and support to junior and mid-level developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field; Master's or Doctorate may substitute for required experience.
• 10+ years of experience in data architecture, database design, and data engineering.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and Greenplum in a production environment.
• Proficiency in Python and R for data manipulation and statistical analysis.
• Experience with cloud environments, particularly AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Redshift).
• Strong understanding of data warehousing best practices and data governance principles.
• Effective communication skills for working with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with SAS and SAS Viya for advanced analytics and reporting.
• Familiarity with BI tools like Tableau and Power BI.
• Prior experience with federal or state government IT projects.
