About the position

The Sr Data Architect position is responsible for leading complex projects that architect efficient data management across a unified data tier. This role involves designing, developing, documenting, and administrating the data environment using various tools such as ETL, Data Virtualization, Business Intelligence Reporting, and Big Data. The architect will work closely with both IT and business teams to integrate analytics and reporting into business processes, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and manage data pipelines for data structures including data transformation mapping and data flow diagrams.
  • Develop data strategies and translate them into integration frameworks and reporting for business analytics.
  • Provide a standard business vocabulary and outline high-level integrated designs to meet strategic data requirements.
  • Lead planning sessions with customers to improve business processes and prioritize investments in data and infrastructure.
  • Analyze existing data structures to identify weaknesses and develop improvement opportunities.
  • Oversee the evaluation and selection process for new data application packages.
  • Document IT data models (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical) for efficient data use.
  • Implement and maintain solutions for modeling, ETL/API, data mining, and metadata management.
  • Develop decision matrices for data platform usage (data warehouse, data mart, big data, or data virtualization).
  • Identify data requirements, develop specifications, enforce data governance, and apply data modeling patterns.
  • Assist in developing best practices for data management, ensuring compliance with architectural standards.
  • Participate in design and data model reviews, providing feedback to Application Developers.
  • Manage multiple project priorities and requests.
  • Propose changes to enterprise data architecture to adapt to business and market developments.
  • Adhere to data quality standards and review data models for compliance.
  • Define development guidelines and standards for managing structured and unstructured data sets.
  • Demonstrate project management skills and lead IT projects as needed.
  • Provide Tier III support for reporting and data applications.
  • Offer technical guidance and leadership to team members.
  • Establish relationships with business partners to provide technical solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience or equivalent certification with 5 years of experience.
  • 7 years of experience if no Bachelor's degree or certification.
  • US Citizenship and capability to obtain a US Dept of Energy 'Q' level security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ETL and business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with Apache Hadoop environment.
  • Knowledge of data modeling software tools such as Erwin, ER/Studio, or Power Designer.
