About the position

As a Senior Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will leverage your expertise in standard processes for preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning equipment. This role is crucial in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's cloud services, including Azure, Office 365, and more. You will guide other technicians, ensure compliance with operational policies, and contribute to service quality improvements while fostering a culture of inclusion and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate expertise in standard processes and procedures for data center operations.
  • Review process changes to evaluate their impact on service quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with Global Data Center Operations and service-level policies.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently and delegate tasks to technicians.
  • Prepare and perform hardware startups and shutdowns.
  • Ensure post-execution quality checks are performed by technicians.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to identify issues and guide technicians in replacing faulty components.
  • Communicate and report incidents following established procedures.
  • Decommission hardware for complex changes and contribute to issue tracking and client relations.
  • Help collect service metrics and maintain awareness of key performance indicators.
  • Train other technicians on the job and facilitate compliance with safety procedures.
  • Reinforce a positive team environment by sharing information and responding to feedback.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 2+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard business hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • 2+ years experience in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 datacenter environment.
  • Applicable certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).
