About the position

CNA is seeking an individual contributor who will provide high-level expertise in the design, development, and integration of strategic data applications throughout the software development lifecycle, particularly in an Agile environment. This role involves building large-scale data processing systems and data lakes on Google Cloud Platform, ensuring quality and reliability standards are met, and may include leading or sub-leading various technical projects. The position emphasizes collaboration with both internal teams and external resources, with a focus on delivering value to the CNA brand and its stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the building of large-scale data processing systems and data lakes on Google Cloud Platform.
• Applies technical knowledge on data modeling and best engineering practices.
• Delivers results as a key team member, creating value for the CNA brand and stakeholders.
• Works with external and offshore resources as required.
• Leads or sub-leads the design, implementation, and automation of data pipelines.
• Conducts robust unit testing to ensure deliverables match design specifications.
• Ensures adherence to established quality and reliability standards in an Agile environment.
• Designs complex physical data models and cloud-based data lake constructs.
• Creates integrated data views based on business or analytics requirements.
• Researches and implements process improvements to address technology gaps.
• Designs and builds data solutions for reporting, analytics, and data management.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuous learning.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of relational database concepts, ETL/ELT, star schema, and data modeling.
• Proficient in Python or advanced SQL in a business environment with large-scale datasets.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a matrixed environment.
• Typically 5+ years of experience in data, analytics, or application development.
• 2+ years of coding proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, SQL).
• Experience using Agile methods preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Preferred experience in building data analytics solutions using Google Cloud Platform services.
• Experience with code management tooling such as Github, Concourse, Yaml.
• Preferred experience with the insurance industry and its products.
• Experience in implementing big data processing technology, preferably Apache Spark.
• Working knowledge of Business Intelligence tools.
