About the position

The Sr. Data Engineer role at Amazon Web Services (AWS) is focused on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data warehousing solutions. This position is crucial for ensuring data integrity, quality, and availability, which supports data-driven decision-making and business intelligence initiatives across the organization. The Data Engineer will work within the AWS Global Services (GS) team, contributing to operational excellence and customer success throughout the cloud adoption lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Conduct data discovery and profiling for various data sources.
• Design and implement robust ETL pipelines to extract, transform, and load data.
• Develop and maintain efficient data ingestion processes.
• Design and develop effective data models and schemas for various data sources.
• Implement and maintain a centralized data warehouse architecture.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into optimized data structures.
• Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures.
• Implement data quality controls, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms.
• Continuously monitor data quality and implement remediation measures.
• Design and implement centralized data integration pipelines.
• Ensure seamless data integration and interoperability between different systems.
• Integrate propensity models with downstream systems and processes.
• Implement robust data security measures to protect sensitive data.
• Ensure data lineage and traceability across the organization.
• Continuously monitor data flows and optimize performance.
• Develop and implement data retention and archiving policies.
• Establish data disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Requirements

• 2+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology experience.
• 2+ years of relational database technology experience.
• 2+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR.
• Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EC2).
• Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language (Python, Java, Scala, NodeJS).
• Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of a team or organization.
• Experience communicating to senior management and customers verbally and in writing.
• Experience managing a data or BI team.
• 5+ years of data engineering experience.
